Willard Found Guilty In Robocall Trial

Willard Found Guilty In Robocall Trial
Daniel Willard

MADISON, SD -

A Lake County jury has found a Republican political activist guilty of breaking state election laws.

Daniel Willard was accused of not registering a group behind controversial robocalls last fall.  During a three-day trial, prosectors argued that Willard used his personal credit card to buy the phone that was used to make the robocalls.
Prosecutors said in closing arguments if it wasn't for that, they still to this day wouldn't know who made the calls because the proper disclosure was not put in place.

Willard's defense said in closing arguments that because prosecutors only have only linked Willard to the calls through the credit card number, email address and IP address, there is not enough evidence.

It took the jury just over an hour to find Willard guilty of all four charges he faced.
