Wide Gas Price Swings In Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, SD -
If you don't like the price of gas you're seeing listed on the sign out front, just drive another block or two and you might catch a break. We found price swings at stations located on the same street during a quick check around town.
We got into our news vehicle and drove around Sioux Falls to see what stations are charging for gas on Wednesday. Most of the prices we found hovered in the $3.35 a gallon range. The widest gulf in prices was separated by only a short distance.
The high price of gasoline is forcing many drivers to be more choosy about where they fill up.
"I guess I look around. I don't go out of the way to find some place," Pat Wieseler of Watertown said.
"Just depends where at, especially on the east side, I kind of like to go to them smaller ones. They have better prices, usually," Jon Anderson of Sioux Falls said.
You don't have to go out of your way to save at the pump. We found gas selling for $3.35 a gallon for the "silver' ethanol blend and $3.55 a gallon for regular unleaded at the Get N Go on East 10th Street. But just a few blocks down the street, gas at Mr. Nifty was $3.29 a gallon.
"Normally, prices are within 5 to 10 cents of each other most of the time, so it surprises me there's 26 cents," Wieseler said.
Many drivers find frustration with the fluctuation.
"There ain't a lot a guy can do about it, I don't think. If you can't afford to drive, you can't drive," Dave Kemerling of Watertown said.
But the price swings aren't just limited to the gas stations in Sioux Falls.
"From Watertown, $3.49. I was in Mission yesterday and one store down there it was $3.17. Why? Why is there a big difference? $3.39 down here, I think that's too much of a difference," Wieseler said.
During our drive-by survey, we found the cheapest gas selling for $3.25 a gallon for super-unleaded at the Kum & Go at 6th Street and Sycamore Avenue.
