If Sertoma Avenue or Maple Street are part of your westside commute, detours and closures could cause delays.
The northbound lane of Sertoma Avenue will be under construction to repair utilities and traffic lights. The latest closure as part of ongoing 41st Street construction, detours will follow 41st Street, Marion Road and 26th Street. Work started back in March and will continue through the summer. Officials say there will be continued access to 41st Street businesses.
"The reason why we are closing it down is because it's going to help us finished the intersection quicker so we can get done before school starts next fall," Sioux Falls City Engineer, Joshua Peterson said. "So once we get Sertoma on the north side of 41st street done then we will flip traffic around and close the south half of the intersection and get that done.”
Starting today, Maple Street, from LaMesa Drive to Marion Road, will be completely closed for reconstruction. The northwestern Sioux Falls road feeds into Southeast Technical Institute and Russell Avenue. The project will resurface the street and add a left turn lane. Growth in the area, including the new George McGovern Middle School, prompted officials to improve the street for increased demand. Marion Road and Benson Road will remain open as possible detours for drivers.
