Wells Fargo To Cut Jobs In Aberdeen Next Year
November 8, 2011, 9:00 AM
ABERDEEN, SD -
Wells Fargo Auto Finance in downtown Aberdeen plans to lay off workers in March, but the company isn't immediately saying how many.
Wells Fargo regional spokeswoman Staci Schiller says the company is consolidating two auto finance businesses within Wells Fargo - auto finances and dealer services. That means less work for the Aberdeen center, which is a collection center for auto loans.
Nearly 200 people work at the center. Schiller says the layoffs will affect supervisors, managers and collectors. She says employees who qualify will receive a severance package, and the company will do what it can to help them find new jobs.
Local economic development official Julie Johnson says many other companies in Aberdeen are adding jobs, which means opportunities for the laid-off workers.
