Weather A Concern For Longhorn Complex Fires

The weather is a key factor for crews battling the Longhorn Complex fires on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

Above average temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds are all contributing to what Incident Commander Joe Lowe is calling extreme fire behavior.

A Type II Incident Team assumed command of the blaze on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

There are three active fires burning within this complex. The Beads Creek Fire has burned more than 6,000 acres. The Longhorn fire has burned almost 1,500 acres. And the Iron Shell fire has burned more than 10,000 acres.

The fires have burned more than 18,000 acres all together and containment for the complex remains at 25 percent.

Some road closures are in effect because of heavy smoke in the area.

Lightning caused all three fires.
