WBK: USD Rides Win Streak Into Rivalry Matchup

WBK: USD Rides Win Streak Into Rivalry Matchup
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

After a slow start, the Yotes are back above five-hundred this season and boast a pretty impressive league record thanks to a current four-game win streak.

"We had some injuries early in the season, but our team has really come together and overcome that and is starting to play a little better. We're building some momentum and I couldn't be happier with the transition," head coach Amy Williams said.

Williams is not only happy to be in town, her team is glad to have her. Sharpshooting-guard Tempestt Wilson thinks her new coach's style of play fits the team's skill set to perfection.

"Her intensity when it comes to practice, just playing hard, going through drills. I love that we're a really fast team. We like to get up and down the court, fast breaks, running the ball. Our defense is really the key to games and just rebounding," Wilson said.

On top of that sophomore Nikole Seekamp has been lighting up the scoreboard. The Australian-native is averaging just under 15 points and at 5-10 grabs 4 boards per game.

"I try to whatever I can to help the team. If I'm not having a good scoring night I'm obviously going to try to do something else. Whether it's rebounding or just locking down defensively. I'm definitely not the biggest girl out there, but it would definitely help if I was. I just do whatever I can, when I can," Seekamp said.

Her next chance to do whatever she can comes Wednesday night when the Jackrabbits travel to Vermillion. The Coyotes know what's at stake too. They're not only looking to avenge their 72-60 loss to SDSU back on January 6th, with a win they will be tied with their rivals on top of the Summit League standings.

"It would be really fun to be in that position, but we're just taking one game at a time and we'll see where it ends up," Williams said.

"We were preseason polled to finish sixth. If we can become equal firsts, that would show some people that we're not a team that is just going to lie down and let other teams kick us around. We're going to stand up and fight against everyone else," Seekamp said.
