Four players scored in double figures for No. 2 Notre Dame (12-0) in a 94-51 win over South Dakota State (9-7) Thursday in women’s basketball at Purcell Pavillion in front of 8,867 fans.
Kayla McBride scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field for the Irish. Jewell Loyd added 14 points while Natalie Achonwa and Madison Cable each had 13 points.
SDSU, which was facing its highest-ranked opponent in the program history, was led by junior Gabby Boever’s (Worthington, Minn.) nine points. Junior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) and freshman Clarissa Ober (Glencoe, Minn.) each had a team-high seven rebounds. Ober also had a career-high four steals.
South Dakota State traded baskets with the Irish in the first three minutes before Notre Dame used a 12-0 run to take a 19-4 lead with 14:28 left in the half. The Irish pushed their lead to 57-21 in the final minute of the half after Madison Cable sank a pair of three-pointers.
South Dakota State returns to action Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. when it hosts IUPUI in its Summit League opener at Frost Arena.
