University of Sioux Falls senior Laura Johnson has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Cedar Falls, Iowa native led the Cougars in wins over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State as she averaged 25.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. Johnson tied her career-high in points on Saturday against Bemidji State with 29 points on 10-of-22 shooting including shooting 8-for-15 from behind the arc. Johnson also tied the USF school record for three-point shots made in a game with eight and moved up to eighth in USF career scoring with 1,273 points.
On the season, Johnson is averaging 15.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.1 blocks per game. She also is shooting 45.4% on field goals and 40.3% from behind the arc.
Johnson is the first USF basketball player to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors since the Cougars joined the NSIC and Division II in 2012.
The Cougars will start a four game road trip as they travel to Minnesota this weekend to take on Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State-Mankato.
