Our sunny and warm days are limited, but pretty soon temperatures will fall and we'll have the chill in the air.
October is a month meteorologists pay close attention to as it gives us clues to the up coming winter. It's been studied by numerous meteorologist over the years. Gary Lezak, a meteorologist from Kansas City, has been studying it since the 1980s. He found that a pattern sets up in October into early November, which tends to repeat itself on a 35 to 75-day cycle.
So as we go through the month, we'll have to watch for storm systems in KELOLAND. Say we get widespread heavy rain in the middle of October. If we get another widespread heavy rain in mid-November, then we know the cycle is short, around 35 days. And we can expect more storm systems every 35 days through winter.
We'll see how October ends up and what ultimately happens with the cycle.
