Washington Softball's Senior Ace

September 24, 2012, 10:35 PM by Jim Madalinsky

Washington Softball's Senior Ace
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

At 20-2 the Washington Warriors have been rolling all season long.
Like any good fastpitch team that success starts in the circle where Senior ace Katie Johnson has made it look pretty easy.

"She practices hard on and off the field. Just a hard worker. She knows what she wants and went out there and got it," Washington Coach Scott Powell said.

Johnson's success this season peaked earlier this month.
The senior tossed a perfect game striking out 19 of 21 against Lennox and followed that up 3 days later with a 2nd straight perfect game against Roosevelt.

"I haven't been too involved with many of those so its pretty special to sit back and watch her work," Powell said.

"It feels good when you know you've been doing well so far and you need to keep pushing through, because the minute you let up you don't want them to get back in it," Washington Senior Katie Johnson said.

Those dominating performances have been the norm for Johnson this season.
They have also raised expectations for both her and the team; Pressure she says she's ready to handle.

"I've had the experience and I've just been really confident in trusting my self and trusting my defense," Johnson said.

A mentality she plans on taking with her next season when she trades in her orange and black for the cardinal and gold of Iowa State.

"I'm expecting to be challenged and that's something I've always wanted is to be challenged and I want to play against the best and get better every single day," Johnson said.
