Warning: $9.84 Credit Card Scam

January 28, 2014, 12:40 PM by Angela Kennecke

Warning: $9.84 Credit Card Scam
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If you've noticed a charge of $9.84 on your credit card statement, you'll want to contest it.

The Better Business Bureau is warning that scammers are charging stolen credit card numbers a small amount of money, in hopes that cardholders won't notice it and credit card companies won't go after such a small amount.

The source of the $9.84 charge is an unfamiliar website. The Better Business Bureau says it's a generic landing page that claims to offer “Customer Support.” The text promises to “refund 100% of your last payment” and provides a phone number and email address.

Victims report calling the “customer support” site and receiving verbal confirmation that the charge would be canceled.  But the BBB advises you to contact your bank to report the charge and ask for a new card.
