Warm Memorial Day Weekends

May 20, 2014, 6:38 PM by Scot Mundt

Warm Memorial Day Weekends

All eyes during the seven-day forecast are focused for the extended weekend as many people with have plans during the three-day weekend.  Looks like we'll luck out and buck the cooler than average trend that's been the talk since the winter months.

In fact, forecast highs are in the 80s for Saturday through Monday in Sioux Falls.  If the 80s hold true, it will be the fifth time since 1990 that all three days had highs of at least 80 degrees.  The last time that happened was in 2010.

Here are some interesting facts about Memorial Weekend in Sioux Falls.  Keep in mind, this is over the past 24 years.

The average high for the weekend since 1990 is 71.5 degrees.  The warmest weekend was in 1994 with an average high of 88.7 degrees. That included a high of 90 on that Saturday that year.

On the other hand, the coldest was in 1996 with an average high of 51.3 degrees.  That weekend included a high of 49 on Memorial Day.

The odds of having a 90 degree day are very slight; it's only happened twice during the holiday weekend since 1990 or three percent of the time.

Along with the heat, we'll have scattered storms possible but a lot of us can still use the water.
