Walmart Plans To Build Two New Stores In Sioux Falls

Walmart has announced plans to build two new stores in Sioux Falls.

The discount retailer announced Monday one store will go up at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue and another will be built at West 60th Street North and Marion Road.

Not much will need to be done with the location on 60th Street North and Marion Road. That’s because the Sioux Falls Development foundation already owns the cite. It is already zoned and annexed into the city.

At a press conference Monday, Walmart said that part of the city is growing, with homes going up all around the area.

But the site on 85th and Minnesota isn’t in city limits. So, the process to build that Walmart will be a little more complicated. The city of Sioux Falls will need to petition the city council to annex that property into the city. They will also need to rezone that area.

The stores will be built at the same time and Sioux Falls mayor Mike Huether says this is the first time ever two Walmart Supercenters will be built at the same time.

Walmart says the two stores will open in late 2014.
