Northwestern Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities have a new shopping option starting Wednesday. Walmart on 60th Street North is now open. We were there as city officials welcomed the third store to town.
Walmart employees were full of cheer today, as they celebrated the grand opening of a new store on the northwest side of Sioux Falls.
"Without you, make no mistakes, we wouldn't be here today. Every day you vote with your feet and you voted again for another Walmart," said Market Manager, Steve Hanselman.
The opening ceremonies included a drumline performance by West Central, a ribbon cutting, and a reading from the Sam Walton book of business.
Some of the first customers through the door were impressed with what they saw.
"It's beautiful. It's very clean. It looks like it's well organized. Easy place to spend your money," said shopper, Barbara Uhe said.
"We don't really have much out here for the north side of town. So it's a great addition for us. Really good," nearby resident, Michelle Kracke said.
The store also presented four checks to local organizations. Including 42,500 dollars to Feeding South Dakota.
"One of the challenges facing every community is hunger. And on that front, we're very committed. Walmart recently became the first partner in Feeding America to donate 1 Billion meals to help fight hunger and feed families," store manager, Shawn Shubert said.
Families they hope to continue to serve for many years to come, at store 4865.
Wednesday, Mayor Mike Huether said he would be proud to be at the grand opening for the proposed southside walmart too.
The city is currently working on code reviews for a fourth walmart store on 85th and Minnesota. Permits should be approved for that store the second week of September. You may remember people in that area rejected a store prompting a city wide vote and Supreme Court challenge.
