Waiting For A Deal On An iPhone 5?

October 10, 2012, 9:50 PM by Angela Kennecke

Waiting For A Deal On An iPhone 5?
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Some reports out say you'll have to wait four months for a deal on the latest iPhone 5. But one local used mobile phone retailer says the iPhone 5 deals will arrive sooner than that.

Max Remund is one of the 5 million people who rushed to get the latest and greatest iPhone last month.  It's only natural that this mobile phone tech would be one of the many willing to pay full price with a new contract.

"I was really excited, I always used an iPhone so, of course, I wanted to get the newest and nicest one, so I ordered it in the first week. I paid the $300 price like most people did," Remund said.

He's not exactly disappointed in the new gadget, but he says he now wishes he would have waited a while.

"I paid the same price I did for the last one and I feel like I've spent too much money on iPhones right now," Remund said.

"You never want to buy the brand new electronics right away. I always give it a few months," Will Wheeler of Next2New Wireless said.

Wheeler says it won't be long before people can pick up used iPhone 5s for a couple hundred dollars less than what they retail for now.

"Before we start seeing it used here, it runs 60-90 days after it comes out, give or take. We get that person who waited in line for it, absolutely had to have it and then they don't like it," Wheeler said.

Still, the used or refurbished iPhone 5 is expected to sell for about $500 without a contract; but he expects people will want to trade them off anyway.

"The Galaxy S3 is out, so I'm sure we'll see some people coming in to trade the iPhone 5 off for Galaxy S3 and Christmas is coming up so there's bound to be a whole product line of new phones coming out in just a couple of months," Wheeler said.

But even as the price drops, not everyone will be jumping on the iPhone 5 bandwagon.

"I guess you've got to be a computer wiz to run one of those and I'm not one of them," Duane Hartwick said.

If you don't want to buy a used or refurbished iPhone, dealnews.com is predicting that iPhone 5 models will drop by $50 in price come mid-January.
