Voters To Decide SF School Start Date

May 27, 2014, 5:50 PM

Voters To Decide SF School Start Date
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Sioux Falls voters could change the school start date.

The school board says petitioners collected the necessary number of signatures to put the issue on the 2015 spring ballot.

That news came at the board's Tuesday meeting.

Supporters of a post-Labor Day start date say they've asked for a compromise from the Sioux Falls School District for five years.  The petition campaign launched in April after the school board approved the school schedules for the next three years, all starting in August.

With the issue going to the voters in spring 2015, the decision could have an impact on the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
