School is just around the corner for thousands of students in Sioux Falls.
While it's an exciting time of year from many, for others the cost of going back to class is simply too much. That's where a project with The Banquet in Sioux Falls comes in.
Project S.O.S. through The Banquet in Sioux Falls has been collecting school supplies for several weeks, now it is time to get those supplies into the hands of students.
But before doors can open, hundreds of volunteers are stuffing the backpacks to ensure they're ready.
Volunteers are working at The Banquet in shifts on Friday. When they're done, they'll have prepared more than 6,000 backpacks for Sioux Falls students and students from surrounding communities.
For those in need of supplies, distribution happens at Whittier Middle School, starting Saturday morning, but nobody can line up outside before 7 a.m.
The student must be there to receive the supplies and they must have some form of ID.
Even though the items start going out Saturday, The Banquet is still in need of supplies and monetary donations. That's because they'll be giving supplies to students all school year.
