The town of Wessington Springs has set up a volunteer center that will open on Monday, June 23.
According to Mayor Melissa Mebius, Wessington Springs does need some volunteers and continuing cash donations. The town has received donations of clothing and is able to meet most of the needs of the community.
Those volunteering are asked to register at Wessington Springs Elementary located on 904 2nd Street Northeast. The easiest way to get to the school is on 383rd Avenue from Highway 34 and then west on 2nd Street Northeast.
Most of the help is needed in debris cleanup. Those voluntering should bring their own gloves, sun screen and rakes. They should also wear appropriate clothing like pants and hard soled shoes.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. and check out is no later than 7 p.m. at the elementary school.
Those under 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
The Red Cross is accepting donation for those who want to support recovery efforts. Visit the Red Cross website or call 1-800-Red-Cross and remember to designate your donation for Wessington Springs.
Those with cash donations can drop them off at American Bank & Trust in Wessington Springs, Alpena, Huron, Wolsey, Miller, Huron-Walmart, Pierre, Mellette and De Smet.
