Vollmer Tribute Song Hits Web

February 25, 2013, 10:09 PM by Kelly Bartnick

Vollmer Tribute Song Hits Web
Brittany, Jim, Caleb, Alyssa & Julie Vollmer

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Condolences are pouring in for the Vollmer family.  Jim, Julie, Caleb and Alyssa Vollmer were killed when the SUV they were in crashed on Interstate 90 Saturday evening. The family’s oldest daughter, Brittany, was away at college.

Neighbors and friends of the family shared memories of the family, including students and staff at Sioux Falls Christian Schools, where the Vollmer children attended. Caleb Voss attended school with the girls, and a Facebook video he posted from his Texas college dorm room has gone viral.

“My main reason for posting it was to try to find some encouragement to the Vollmers and their family,” Voss said in a Skype interview with KELOLAND News Monday evening.

Though Voss's dorm room is nearly a thousand miles away, his heart is at home. At Sioux Falls Christian, he was a year younger than Brittany Vollmer, but ran track with Alyssa, who died in Saturday's crash.

The song posted on Facebook is his way to show solidarity with the surviving family members.

“I've got five siblings. I couldn't imagine something like that happening to them. And I think that's really what has made people think long and hard about this whole thing,” Voss said. “I really have to give credit to God on this one because He really inspired me.”

Voss posted the three-minute song online Sunday night.  By Monday, it had been shared hundreds of times. Voss said he wanted the family to know even those far away were behind them.

“Keep strong. Keep strong and know that he has a bigger plan through it all and know he is going to do something great,” Voss said.
