The victim of an alleged kidnapping said she believes her captors were going to kill her had police not shown up. Bond is set at $75,000 each for 32-year-old Donald Wise and 30-year-old Heather McBeth. Both face kidnapping and aggravated assault charges.
Police said they beat up a 30-year-old woman until she was unconscious. The woman then woke up in an SUV the two suspects were driving.
Police said Wise and McBeth attacked a 30-year-old woman Monday morning at a westside mobile home park. The victim -- who apparently knows the two suspects -- was at the home, saw them pull up and then ran out the back. The pair chased her, pushed her to the ground and punched her outside of a trailer home. She claims McBeth strangled her until she was unconscious. She said she woke up in the back of an SUV that the pair was driving.
"It was fortunate officers were able to find that car when they did," Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Clemens said.
A witness described the vehicle, officers figured out the license plate number and caught up with the SUV two hours later in the central part of town.
"The woman made a comment or kind of made a motion to one of the officers that she didn't want to be there. They took her out of that vehicle and talked to her and found out she had been assaulted and kidnapped," Clemens said.
According to authorities, this whole thing is drug-related. In court, it was revealed the victim used to do drugs with the two suspects, but had stopped. An attorney says the victim was then working with law enforcement.
The victim had injuries including a bloody nose, bruises, and scratches.
Wise and McBeth could face a maximum of life in prison for the kidnapping charge.
Wise is also accused with leading police on a chase on Friday night. They said he got out of the car and ran away. He was not caught at that point.
Wise also faces charges for Friday's chase.
