SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A deadly drunk driving crash that killed a Sioux Falls bicyclist is bringing people together.
Kevin Rogers taught economics at Colorado Technical University in Sioux Falls. This weekend, his friends and colleagues are coming together to remember him.
"Dr. Rogers was important to the community; he was passionate about students," David Heflin said.
CTU President and friend, David Heflin, says Rogers also had a passion for bike riding, and that's how they plan to remember him.
"We thought how can we honor and remember Dr. Rogers. We thought what would he be doing on a fall morning, and that would be riding his bike," Heflin said.
They're calling it 'The Ride to Remember'. On Saturday, the group will ride from CTU's campus to the white 'ghost' bike, the spot where Rogers was killed.
"We want to see a happy event where we can remember Dr. Rogers and what he means to the community," Heflin said.
Along with honoring Rogers, the ride will also be used to help prevent tragic accidents like this from happening.
"I think for both motorist and bicyclist, there's an opportunity to learn from this tragic accident," Heflin said.
A moment of silence will be held at 7:45 a.m. prior to the bike ride at 8 o’clock. Following the ride, CTU will host a free Bicycle Safety session on its campus. There will also be complimentary bicycle tune-ups, along with bicycle games and activities for kids.
