Vandals Shoot Out Dozens Of SF Car Windows

August 11, 2014, 5:45 PM by Ben Dunsmoor

Vandals Shoot Out Dozens Of SF Car Windows

It's a crime spree that will likely cost many drivers in Sioux Falls hundreds of dollars.  Police say early Sunday morning someone shot out nearly 60 car windows all across the city.

Investigators believe they have three suspects who may be behind the broken windows, but they haven't made any arrests yet.

A piece of plastic was hanging from Samantha Neitzel's car on Monday after her window was shattered as part of the crime spree.

"I was woken up at 5:00 a.m. by a cop knocking on our door saying our car had been vandalized," Neitzel said.

Police believe vandals shot out the window on her car, put a bullet through her boyfriend's window and then proceeded to do the same thing throughout the rest of the northeast Sioux Falls neighborhood near 1st Street and Leadale Avenue.

"There's a whole bunch of cars that were vandalized as well. When I was trying to go to work I just noticed everyone was outside sweeping the ground already because everyone was trying to figure out what happened," Neitzel said.

About two dozen cars were hit in Neitzel’s neighborhood, but police believe a total of 60 total vehicles were vandalized with a small B.B. gun or pellet gun between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. in the morning Sunday.

Police say the spree touched every corner of the city.

"It literally is just about all four quadrants had some type of damage that's associated to this particular incident," Sioux Falls Police Lieutenant Loren McManus said.

Detectives are taking a closer look at a traffic stop that was made early Sunday morning which may have involved three potential suspects.

Police say it’s unique to have this kind of vandalism across the city.

"It's more the quantity that we're concerned about. I mean that's a fairly large amount of victims to have in one incident," McManus said.

Neitzel says the damage will cost her at least $250 and she hopes police can track down the vandals.

"Know that there is consequences for what their actions are and teach them a lesson," Neitzel said.

Police say if your car was vandalized or you have any information in the case call 911.
