It looks like the quarterback competition at the University of Sioux Falls is down to two true freshmen.
Monday night KELOLAND Sports confirmed that sophomore QB Calvin Jacobson has opted to leave the program. Jacobson emerged from spring ball as the starter but with the addition of freshmen Luke Papilion and Matt Young in the fall, a new competition began.
Jacobson, from Blue Springs, MO., wasn't happy with the way things were going and had this to say in a message to KELO.
"I will just say that I needed to make a decision for my own good and that it wasn't necessarily the final consensus that I had hoped for. I have put a lot into this program, and I'm upset that I'll be leaving my family there at USF. I really enjoyed the city and the community that I have come to know and love. I've made some great friends and I wish my team members the best for this upcoming season," Jacobson said.
The Cougars open the season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Sep. 7.
