USD, SDSU To Compete In New Rivalry Series

USD, SDSU To Compete In New Rivalry Series
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

South Dakota's top university rivals will compete in an annual athletic and academic competition that carries a new traveling trophy.

The South Dakota Showdown Series pits the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits against the University of South Dakota Coyotes in 17 men's and women's sports and also carries an academic component.

The trophy and competition is sponsored by the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council to benefit Feeding South Dakota, a nonprofit that provides food to 450 organizations that distribute it to families across the state.

The schools will renew their century-old football rivalry in Brookings Nov. 17 after a nine-year hiatus.

After the last gridiron meeting between the Jackrabbits and the Coyotes in 2003, SDSU was reclassified as an NCAA Division I institution. USD has since followed suit.
