Researchers at the University of South Dakota are studying veterans to gain a better understanding of the link between traumatic stress and health.
Reports say that researchers in USD's psychology department are taking part in the multidisciplinary study.
Jeffrey Simons is one of the researchers taking part. He says the study focuses on Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans. He says the ultimate goal of the research is to improve care for the country's newest generation of veterans.
The research is being conducted at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sioux Falls and the Veteran Health Care System in Bay Pines, Fla. The National Institutes of Health provided the $1.7 million grant for the study.
