USD Makes Its NCAA Tournament Debut Against Stanford
AMES, IA -

The South Dakota Coyotes Women’s Basketball Team will take the court for the first time in the NCAA Tournament in Ames, IA against the powerhouse Stanford Cardinal. The game tips off at 5:30 p.m.

The Coyotes come in hot after winning the Summit League Tournament.

This is the first meeting between the two schools.

The Coyotes defeated the Denver Pioneers 82-71 in the Summit League Championship Game to earn their first ever tournament appearance. South Dakota has been led by Nicole Seekamp, who’s averaging 15.3 points a game along with four rebounds. Combine with the Yotes Senior Polly Harrington, USD was able to come out the Summit League Champs.

The Yotes, however, face the tough task of going against the Stanford Cardinal. The last four years the Cardinal Women’s Team has been ranked number one in the tournament and this year marks the 27th consecutive time they have made it to the tournament. The Cardinal come in as the number two seed with a 29-3 overall record. They are paced by player of the year candidate Chiney Ogwumike who averages 26.8 points a game and 12.3 rebounds.

15 seeds going against two seeds are 0-80 in tournament play.
