Federal Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is helping celebrate the grand opening of the newly expanded River Cities Public Transit facility in Pierre.
The facility was recently expanded with about $5 million in federal funds. It includes a new dispatch center, offices and a bus garage.
LaHood traveled to Pierre on Wednesday. He says investments in public transportation infrastructure help reduce maintenance costs and ensure that people can get to jobs, schools, medical appointments and other destinations.
The improved Pierre facility will support public transportation service for people in 11 central South Dakota counties.
