VERMILLION, SD -
U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem says she is close to earning a college degree.
The South Dakota Republican during a weekend speech at the University of South Dakota winter commencement said she has turned in her final paper and hopes to soon qualify for the degree.
When Noem was 22 she left school to help run her family's ranch after her father was killed in a farm accident. Through the years she has taken college classes including online courses, and also has
received intern credits for her work in Congress.
Noem was elected to the U.S. House last year after serving in the state House.
