Police say they have made an arrest in the Kari Kirkegaard murder.
According to a Tweet sent out by the police department, Christopher Kryger is facing murder, rape and several other charges in the death of 56-year-old Kirkegaard, who was found dead in her bathtub with the water running on March 16 by family members.
At first, family and authorities thought her death was an accident. An autopsy pointed to homicide and police started an investigation.
Police had released video and photos of a suspect. Police say the man was caught on camera riding up to Kirkegaard's home on a bicycle and then leaving in Kirkegaard's SUV. He then returned the SUV, linking him to the crime.
Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel says officers arrested the 40-year-old Sioux Falls man Friday afternoon. Police first spoke with Kryger regarding Kirkegaard's death on Thursday, March 20, after getting a tip from the public. Lt. Matt Burns says DNA evidence found in Kirkegaard's home helped link Kryger to the death.
At this point, police aren't aware of any previous connection between Kryger and Kirkegaard before the crime.
