SIOUX FALLS, SD -
The Caring Bridge website for the South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper who was run over in the line of duty last week has more than 34,000 views.
Andrew Steen's family members who are sharing updates through the blog say Steen is in a medically-induced coma following the crash last Wednesday. He has a significant head injury and broken right ankle. Doctors removed a portion of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain and used hypothermic therapy, which lowers the body temperature to protect his brain.
Family members say the pressure in his brain began to drop Saturday but that the process of waking him would be lengthy. Doctors will warm his body by about a degree per day as his body allows to revive him. An update on Thursday says seizures are now the biggest concern but that doctors have not noticed any pre-seizure activity.
Steen also had surgery on a broken ankle Tuesday and as his body continues to tolerate the warming process, he could have more procedures.
The family has received hundreds of cards, more than 500 messages through the Caring Bridge website and the Praying for Andrew Steen Facebook page has more than 8,400 followers. We've shared the address for well wishes to Trooper Steen below.
