UPDATE: Brandon Police say they have found Miekayla Wojciechowski in Pipestone, MN.
Brandon Police are asking for your help finding a missing teen. 17-year-old Miekayla Wojciechowski ran away from home April 17.
Brandon Police say she ran away after arguing with her parents. The mother of the missing teen wants to see her daughter home soon, and she isn't happy with how police have handled the situation.
It's been more than a week since Miekayla Wojciechowski has been home. The missing teen's mom, Dawn, called police the night Miekayla ran away. She's upset that it took police a week to ask the public for help in finding her daughter.
"The police department just isn't concerned. I'm at my wits end. I don't know. I sit here and cry because I want to know where my daughter is at, but I ain't getting any help," Dawn Wojciechowski said.
Brandon Police say that the 17-year-old has a history of running away from home, which factored into their decision not to notify the public sooner.
"Our normal procedure is to do some routine things, in term of investigating it. When a certain amount of time goes by, this being a week, then it's time to get the public's help into searching for this girl," Sergeant Wayne Ellingson said.
Sergeant Ellingson says the department believes Miekayla is somewhere in the Sioux Falls area. She took off on foot and doesn't have access to a car, unless she borrowed one.
"We have to assume since a week has gone by that she's probably scared, running out of money, running out of places to go. She does not want to be found as far as we can tell," Ellingson said.
Police don't have any evidence to believe that Wojciechowski is in any danger. Her mother hopes her daughter will change her mind, and come back to her family.
"Please come home. We miss you. We love you, and we're all worried. She's got seven siblings that are concerned," Wojciechowski said.
Wojciechowski is around 5 feet tall and weighs around 113 pounds.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Brandon Police 605-582-6125.
