Unusually Warm Weather Hits KELOLAND

December 2, 2012, 10:00 PM by Stephanie Gregory

Unusually Warm Weather Hits KELOLAND
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Warm weather is swinging across the Rushmore State.

"I think it's really nice that we got one warm weekend," Sioux Falls resident Lillian Josten said.

With the temps tipping the scale above 60 degrees on Sunday in Sioux Falls, many residents are out in full force, from hanging lights to hitting the links.

"It's nice to golf in December," golfer Megan Hooker said.

"It's a great opportunity being December 2nd. We're out here and it's 50 degrees," Randy Anderson said.

The Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls opens when the temperature reaches 50 degrees or higher in the winter, it can be unusual but not uncommon.

"It's great; this is two years in a row. The longer we can extend our season around here the more enjoyable it becomes," golfer Ryan Trahamar said.

The golf season seems to be taking a backspin and no one know how long it may last, but a few are holding out hope to keep scheduling tee-times.

"We thought that would be our last time for the season, but now we got to do it again in December, which is great. I hope we can do it in January too," Hooker said.

Not only were golfers out, many were out celebrating the joys of the holiday season by hanging Christmas lights.

"It’s kind of funny to be decorating for, you know, such a cold holiday season most of the time when it's so nice out. It's almost like we should be out golfing or something," homeowner Jon Josten said.

Jon and his wife know all too well the hassle and dangers of decorating when the weather gets low.

"It's nice to be able to put the lights up without the gloves and big heavy coats and you're not brushing the snow away," Lillian Josten said.

Many may be enjoying the warm weather or waiting for winter, these temps won't likely be sticking around for long.
