BROOKINGS, SD -

The wife of South Dakota's first governor will be featured in a performance by a scholar in Brookings.

Mellette's husband, Arthur, was the last governor of the Dakota Territory and the first governor of South Dakota.

The Mellette's moved to Dakota Territory from Indiana in 1879. They built their brick home four years later in Watertown.  It's now called the Mellette House.
