The Division of Criminal Investigation has been conducting undercover sting operations for awhile to try and crack down sex trafficking in the state.
Last October, Don Jorgensen emailed the South Dakota Attorney General's office asking if KELOLAND News could come along and be a part of some of the operations.
We thought if we could show our viewers what a real and serious problem sex trafficking is in the state and actually show people getting arrested for soliciting young girls for sex that would be a huge deterrent.
And the Attorney General's office agreed and granted us unprecedented and exclusive access to a couple of their operations over the past ten months. And we were shocked.
This week we're going to show you the undercover operations as they unfold and use hidden cameras to capture these guys in the act. It takes a lot of planning, organizing and waiting.
We posted fake online ads on websites like Craigslist and backpage.com. Immediately you get a lot of interest, but it takes time to convince these so-called Johns you're not a cop and that you are for real.
We're going to take you behind the scenes and show you what it takes to catch a predator starting Monday on KELOLAND News.
