Two People Rescued After Canoe Tips In River
June 24, 2010, 10:17 AM
SIOUX FALLS, SD -
The fast-moving waters of the Big Sioux River caused problems for a group canoeing Thursday morning.
Four people put two canoes in at 57th Street and Western Avenue. A short time later, one of the canoes tipped. A Brandon woman and her son floated east in the river toward Yankton Trail Park and held onto a log to keep from going any farther. Authorities were called out to get the two out of the river.
The people in the other canoe were able to get to shore by themselves.
Due to increased water flows in the Big Sioux River and Skunk Creek, the City of Sioux Falls is advising people to stay away from and out of the water.
