Two From Dakotas On Justice Department Task Force

January 26, 2011, 6:12 AM

SIOUX FALLS, SD - Two attorneys from the Dakotas have been appointed to a Justice Department task force that will study the prosecution of violent crimes against women in Indian Country.

Members include Gregg Peterman, who's an assistant U.S. attorney in South Dakota, and Michelle Rivard Parks, attorney for the Spirit Lake Tribe in North Dakota.  The 13-member task force is made up of federal prosecutors and tribal attorneys.

The Justice Department says the group will develop short-term strategies for prosecuting domestic violence, sexual assaults and stalking, as well as a long-term manual on federal prosecution of violent crimes against women.
