Monday night's hour-long Tweetcast to help raise money for ranchers in western South Dakota was a huge success. Organizers say people from all over the world were Tweeting about the disaster that killed tens of thousands of cattle, sheep and horses, but also thanking people for their support.
"We've exceeded our expectations with over 5,000 and we met our goal to raise $50,000 with support from Tyson. We had over six million impressions on Twitter within that hour last night between 8 and 9 central time. The six million impressions is really impressive to see the community come together on Twitter," AgChat Foundation organizer Katie Pink said.
The state estimates farmers and ranchers lost close to 30,000 animals in the October 4 blizzard.
