It has been almost three weeks since the record setting blizzard killed tens of thousands of livestock in western South Dakota. Now, people have an opportunity to join together as a community and help the ranchers that lost so much. And all you need to do is hashtag.
Social media will play a big role in helping farmers and ranchers affected by the October 4 blizzard. The state estimates that the death toll of the livestock could reach up to 30,000.
The Ag Chat foundation trains farmers and ranchers how to use social media and on Monday night they hope to raise funds and help get the word out about the good cause.
"Since we are a young organization we don't have a lot to offer in terms of resources but we do have the ability to raise funds online with our connected community through Twitter and Facebook," Ag Chat Foundation Executive Director Emily Zweber said.
The tweetcast starts Monday night at 8 p.m. Central Time, 7 p.m. Mountain Time. Tyson Foods will donate $10 for every Tweet that uses the #rancherrelief and #agchat up to $50,000 during the hour-long fundraiser.
