An early morning drunk driver caused damage to two vehicles and a garage on Tuesday after a chase with police.
Sioux Falls Police say around midnight officers were called for a reckless driver near 10th Street and I-229.
Police say when they got to the area they found a 1989 maroon Chevy Silverado matching the description. They say the truck was eastbound on 10th Street and then jumped the median and pulled into the Golden Nugget Casino lot.
Police say the suspect then left the lot, jumped the median again and turned west on 10th Street. The suspect then started driving south on Lowell Avenue where officers turned on their lights and sirens to try to stop him.
When the truck didn't stop, police turned east on 12th Street and then went south on Cleveland. Near 13th and Cleveland, police stopped pursuing the suspect because he had turned off his headlights.
When officers got up to 18th and Tabbert, they saw the suspect's vehicle had lost control, went up over the curb and hit a tree. The vehicle then hit two vehicles in the driveway of 3205 E 18th Street and then hit the garage, causing extensive damage to the vehicles and the attached garage.
Police say Todd Arnold Tronson was arrested for one felony count of aggravated eluding, DWI, reckless driving and no proof of insurance.
A KELOLAND News crew spoke with the homeowners Sarah and Dale Diedrich. They just moved into the home in October and were recently married in November.
They are both hearing impaired and say they did not hear the crash but were actually woken up by all of the flashing lights and police entering their home. They said they were shocked when they stepped outside and saw all of the damage to their garage and their two cars, but they are thankful they are alright.
"We are thankful that nobody in the house was hurt. We aren't hurt at all. We are just very thankful that it isn't any worse than it is," Sara said.
Diedrich says she thinks at least one of those cars may be totaled. They say there's a lot of damage to the garage but the house itself is okay, so they will continue to stay there.
The Diedrichs say they’ll spend much of Tuesday talking with their insurance company about what can be fixed.
Tronson is currently being held in the Minnehaha County Jail.
