Travelers Feel The Benefits Of Lower Gas Prices

October 31, 2012, 5:08 PM by Sammi Bjelland

Travelers Feel The Benefits Of Lower Gas Prices
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Many drivers are breathing a sigh of relief as gas prices drop.

According to AAA, prices in Sioux Falls have dropped about 10 cents in just a week. And even though Superstorm Sandy continues to impact East Coast refineries, experts say that doesn't necessarily mean you'll pay more.

"You know, it shouldn't impact our gas prices very much. The East Coast is primarily a consumer; they're not a big producer. So honestly with all the people stranded like they are, it should tend to push gas prices down a little lower," Mary Buskhol with AAA said.

And with the holiday season just around the corner, travelers we spoke to say every bit of extra cash helps out.

"I'm grateful for any lower prices on gas. The gas prices when they were up to close to $4 a gallon, we're talking about $46 to $47 a tank for gas. Compared to this last tank of gas I bought was in the $36 range. So it's a big difference," driver Dennis Hidalgo said.

For some, the prices won't change their travel plans, but it could change how they travel.

"Maybe I don't eat out so much, so I give it to the gas station and take it away from the restaurant. But I was going to go, it just makes it easier to spread my budget to different sources," traveler John Lofberg said.

And it sounds like there is a good chance drivers will have a reason to be thankful come Thanksgiving.

"We're hoping that we'll see gas prices continue to decrease through the holidays especially," Buskhol said.
