Trail King Adding Workers In Mitchell
May 13, 2010, 10:46 AM
MITCHELL, SD -
One of Mitchell's largest employers is hiring workers after layoffs last year, though some of the new positions might not be permanent.
The Trail King Industries plant laid off about 150 people in 2009 but has added 41 employees this year. President Carol Lowe says the trailer manufacturing plant expects to add 39 more by the end of the year, bringing the plant work force to 300.
The hires are a combination of new and recalled employees. They come as part of what Lowe calls "a slow, steady growth" out of a recession that caused business at the plant to drop by 65 percent in 2009.
The employees will be temporary until the end of a 90-day trial period, when their performance will be evaluated and a decision will be made regarding the permanence of their positions.
