Toy Test: Toys That Didn't Score Well With Adults

Toy Test: Toys That Didn't Score Well With Adults

If your kids are like most, they probably have their Christmas wish list all made out. But, before you go shopping, you'll want to watch KELOLAND News at 5 and 6 all this week, as we reveal this year's winners of the Great American Toy Test. But some of the most highly advertised toys are not always the best buys. Here's why.

Six weeks ago, Sioux Falls children at Volunteers of America-Dakotas Childcare and Family Literacy Center were inundated with 100 new toys hitting the market this year. Plenty were perfect for the little players, but there are a few that finished sub-par.

VOA Program Supervisor, Jolene Thompson says, "The Hot Wheels Slimecano... I've seen that advertised all over and I just want to go - 'no!" It's kind of frustrating for the kids."

Our toy testers loved the idea of racing cars through the slimy goo, but struggled before the goo even got on scene.

Thompson says, "It doesn't stay together. It wasn't very stable. You have to have exactly the right kind of car to go through it so any Hot Wheels car won't go through it."

Thompson says, "We realized right away things just didn't work right."

Our testers found this toy tipped the scales of justice by tipping over right away.

Thompson says, "The legs don't stay on. It's not really stable so as soon as they play with it, even with two kids playing with it, it would just fall over and fall apart."

Despite that, the kids were able to look past the stability issues and still had fun. As they did with the Animated Bat Cave.

Andreaus Russell says, "We get the Batmans and put them on the rope and they go down."|

But adults had a few more concerns. Thompson says, "When the directions tell you how to anchor it to a wall or a door frame, I get a little nervous. It's real tall."

Thompson says, "From a parent and teacher perspective, it's just not one of those that I would put at the top of my list."

So what is at the top of the list? Watch all this week on KELOLAND News at 5 and 6.
