Ticket Raffle Benefits Injured Trooper

Ticket Raffle Benefits Injured Trooper

Contributions continue to roll in to help a South Dakota State Trooper who suffered head injuries during a hit and run incident with a suspected drunk driver.

The latest fundraiser in Sioux Falls has high-dollar items up for raffle to help Trooper Andrew Steen with medical bills.

Steen walked out of the hospital in December after more than a month of medical care and surgeries resulting from a hit and run incident in the parking lot at The Bridges strip mall in southern Sioux Falls.

Now some of the businesses in The Bridges area want to help Steen with his medical bills. Granite Transformations is spear-heading the benefit.

"We decided to support him and what he does. Throughout this process, we've also seen some of the things he has done, as far as giving to others that are in kind of similar situations as he is, and so we thought this is a big deal and it's life changing. It's going to affect his career for the rest of his life," Granite Transformations designer Darcy Dunker said.

Tickets are $10 each or three for $20 and they could win you a kitchen remodel worth $7,500 or four-season tickets to the Sioux Falls Storm home games. Organizers say the prizes are big to help make the fundraiser successful.

"This is the business we're in and we love to make them beautiful so we thought if we can do something to help Steen as well as have a little incentive for being a part of this whole fundraiser then we wanted to do something dramatic and (have) a really great prize for people to win," Dunker said.

Granite Transformations hopes the benefit will sell 1,000 tickets. You can purchase them at several businesses in Sioux Falls or online until the end of the month.
