Three Weeks, Four Meth Busts In Pipestone Co.

February 13, 2008, 9:43 PM by Erich Schaffhauser

Three Weeks, Four Meth Busts In Pipestone Co.
The growing problem of meth is evident in a rash of busts in Southwest Minnesota. Just last month meth labs were found in Jasper and Holland. Wednesday night authorities shut down two more, both in Pipestone.

One person is already behind bars as part of drug investigation in Pipestone County. That county sheriff's department, along with the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force, are working the case.

Sheriff Dan Delaney says deputies arrested one person yesterday in connection with having the ingredients to make methaphetamine. That arrest led to the two houses that were busted Wednesday night. Delaney credits the crackdown to special investigators who are trying to keep Southwest Minnesota drug free. <

All the ingredients to make meth are sitting on the lawn of a Pipestone home Wednesday night. And it's because law enforcement now has all the ingredients to fight the problem.

Pipestone County Sheriff Dan Delaney says, "Methamphetmine is a problem no matter where you live in today's world. And this is how we handle this type of problem, we actively investigate it. And we just can't tolerate this type of behavior."

The Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force formed two and a half years ago, to investigate cases like Wednesday night's busts in Pipestone. One investigator each from Nobles, Murray, Pipestone and Rock Counties make up the task force, who's sole mission is to crackdown on drug crimes.

Delaney says, "The thing about this type of crime is the people that are involved in it, they don't recognize county lines, city limits and so we have to investigate in law enforcement in a cooperative manner because that's the only way you can combat this problem."

And with several meth labs shut down in one month in Pipestone County, investigators hope they are making strides to stop that problem while sending a message to other criminals.

Delaney says, "The investigation always continues. We hope that it snowballs and if you are involved in this type of activity, you will be arrested eventually."

Delaney says both homes that were busted Wednesday night are connected and he expects more than one arrest come out of the drug busts.
