Three Sioux Falls police officers were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after trying to arrest a Sioux Falls man.
Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens says officers responded to a home on North Lewis Avenue around 7 a.m. A teenage boy had called police from a neighbor's house, saying his uncle, Rocky Thomas Traversie Jr., was "on a rampage" and hit his mom and grandma with a brick. The boy had to break a window to get out of the home because Traversie had locked everyone in.
On the scene, police found Traversie in the home. But he fought with officers when they tried to arrest him.
Clemens says a total of 18 officers came to the home to help arrest Traversie. He's being held on three counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, five counts of kidnapping and two counts of domestic assault.
The three officers were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Clemens says Traversie's mother was hit in the leg and his sister was hit in the head with the brick. They were both taken to the hospital to be checked out.
