ALBERT LEA, MN -
Freeborn County's emergency management director says a series of tornadoes that swept through the area killed one person west of Albert Lea, bring the number of storm-related fatalities to three in Minnesota.
Director Mark Roche says one person was killed at a farm when the tornadoes churned through the county Thursday night. Roche estimates a series of five to nine tornadoes dropped down in the county's rural areas along an 18 to 20 mile path. He says the tornadoes damaged 40 to 60 farms, but spared the county's communities.
In northwestern Minnnesota, an elderly woman was killed when a twister wiped out her home near Almora in Otter Tail County.
Farther north, in Polk County, officials say a man was killed when a tornado destroyed a Cenex gas station in Mentor.
