As the saying goes: life events happen in threes. That's especially true for one KELOLAND family.
Three cousins gave birth within 24 hours at the same Sioux Falls hospital.
"Oh, it's a family reunion," Maya Van Voorste said.
"Everybody was here," Dana Van Middendorp said.
Without planning, three family members gave birth at Avera McKennan Hospital.
Maya Van Voorste was first, with an unscheduled c-section a month early.
"Yeah, it was nice to have, especially when it's your first one, to have lots of visitors," Van Voorste said.
Betty Rozeboom was second. She had no idea her cousin's wife was already in the delivery room when her water broke.
As the family gathered at the hospital, Dana VanMiddendorp joked she might be next.
"I called my mom and she said, 'Oh, are you going to have your baby today so you can be there with all of your cousins?' I said, 'I don't know; I'll see.' Little did, I know," VanMiddendorp said.
A couple hours later, she went into labor, nearly two weeks early. The news shocked the family.
"I called Grandma, and she said, 'I think I need to sit down,' because I was the third one who called her," VanMiddendorp said.
Rozeboom gave birth to her fourth child exactly one year after having her third, when she was in labor during the devastating Sioux Falls Ice storm.
Van Voorste had her sister-in-law, who is a nurse, deliver her baby during her c-section.
