Three children are dead and two adults hospitalized after a fire tore through a home in northern Sioux Falls.
Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras says the three children were found Saturday morning in a single room on the second story of the house near Brookings and Main. He says he doesn't know the adults' conditions.
The victims' names have not yet been released.
Sideras says firefighters felt helpless and frustrated. They'd tried to enter the home but were forced out because the heat was too great.
The blaze was reported about 8 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the home was already engulfed with flames shooting from nearly every west-side window on both floors.
Neighbors say the youngest missing child was in elementary school.
