We had a couple of days this week with high temperatures above average. It's something that hasn't happened that much this month. In fact we've only been above average seven of the first nineteen days of the month. With cold air already in place, we'll remain below average through the weekend.
So far this month, Sioux Falls average high is just under twenty-two degrees with the average low just under four. Compared to the climate averages of just under thirty and just over eleven.
Since 1990, there have only been two other Decembers with temperatures colder than this December. It happened in 2005 when our average high was around nineteen and our average low was three and a half. In 2000 the average high was just under nineteen and lows averaged near zero.
Winter officially starts on Saturday, which means we'll slowly add daylight starting on Sunday but we'll have to wait for the second half of January to see the average highs go up.
