Terry Peak Shows Off New Chair Lift

October 4, 2012, 6:07 PM by Derek Olson

Terry Peak Shows Off New Chair Lift
LEAD, SD -

On Thursday morning, the slopes were white with snow at Terry Peak. While it's not enough to open up the runs, it is enough to get some people excited.

"Yeah, we're pretty excited about the snowfall.  It came at an awesome time because we're just starting our season pass sale," Terry Peak marketing director Linda Derosier said.

If you're familiar with the Black Hills' largest ski resort, you may notice some recent upgrades this winter.

The most noticeable of which is the Goldcorp Express.  It's the third high-speed chair lift to the top of the mountain at Terry Peak.

"We just did the load tests on September 27.  Everything came out beautiful.  It's a wonderful new chair lift and we're excited to have it on board here at Terry Peak," Derosier said.

The new chair lift is a big step up from the last model, which could only handle two skiers per load.

"With it being a quad, more can go up at a time. So it just puts people on the snow faster and gives you more time on the snow," Derosier said.

Other changes include a cover for the snow carpet, which brings beginners to the top of the bunny hill.

"The kids are going to like it.  It's kind of fun, you get to ride up a tunnel and it will give them a chance to warm up a bit, too," Derosier said.

So whether you're a hardcore skier or snowboarder or just a bit curious, you're invited to take a look for yourself as soon as the mountain opens.

"Come out to Terry Peak and check it out," Derosier said.

Derosier says snowmaking will begin November 1. Opening day is set for the day after Thanksgiving. However, that's depends on the weather.

Season passes are on sale for half-price during the month of October.
